Welcome!
The first thing I want you to know is that I love helping women discover the full extent of their strengths and land opportunities that fit with the heart of who they are.
Second, I believe that the power of success lies within daily habits and small changes in mindset – and so my coaching philosophy “Turning Over A New LEAF” refocuses the way you think about yourself and the opportunities available to you. At the route of this philosophy is a deep exploration of your confidence and that inner critic that may be holding you back.
Finally, I have been trained extensively as a Career Coach, a Career Counselor and a leader in the career field. I have coached thousands of clients who have successfully landed opportunities in healthcare, psychology, business, and more. In my coaching sessions, I integrate my powerful abilities to relate, listen with empathy and employ positivity to help you achieve your goals.
My Story
While I am a positive, supportive and friendly person, I realized these qualities were demonstrated only outwardly – and never inwardly. As a result, my confidence and self-efficacy suffered, and I struggled to articulate what was special or unique about me (and being an identical twin certainly didn’t help with this).
I then changed my mindset to one of curiosity, and I began to explore why I felt this way. I wondered if others felt the same way. I was curious about the positive aspects of thinking this way (I learned that the people hardest on themselves are the most motivated to improve). I became interested in the concept of self-efficacy, which is a person’s belief or judgment of their ability to achieve their goals. Even if a person has not done a task before, having high self-efficacy means that they will be more confident to tackle the task, overcome obstacles, and persevere. To me, it became apparent that success directly stems from our own inner confidence, and not just appearing confident. There is a level of trust and self-compassion that is needed to face challenges and step outside of our comfort zone to reach our goals.
In college, professors would say “follow your passion”, but other than a love of reading, writing and helping others, I was not clear on what I wanted to do. As I began the exploration process and met regularly with a career counselor, I was able to take the assessments and techniques and help coach my friends and roommates. I discovered that I loved helping people in this way, and it was gratifying to see the results that came from our conversations. I became fascinated by the career exploration process, and I realized the importance of having clarity on your strengths, career goals, and passion areas.
I learned about the inner critic or the “gremlin” in my coaching training, and I found it both comforting and quite inspiring to know that everyone has this negative voice in their head. Some voices are harsher and louder than others, but it is something we all must manage. I also learned that daily habits are the bridge to growing and making positive life transformations. From this knowledge, I devised my Turn Over A New LEAF methodology. Please see further details in my “Why a Leaf” blog post, and in my methodology sheet.
EDUCATION
I am a Buckeye at heart and I graduated with my B.A. in Psychology from The Ohio State Unviersity and then I pursued the Career Counseling Ed.S./M.S. specialized program at Florida State University (one of only eight programs in the country). This was an immensely impactful program that allowed me to learn from some of the most influential leaders in Career Development. I worked as a Career Counselor, and I completely fell in love with the profession. In addition to becoming a National Certified Counselor, I have sought out opportunities to further expand my skills by completing the following certifications & achievements:
- International Coaching Federation Mentor Coach Certification (In Progress)
- Certified Professional Career Counselor (CPCC)
- Certified Employment Interview Professional (CEIP)
- Myers Briggs Certification
- President/Past President of The Ohio Career Development Association
WORK EXPERIENCE
In addition to serving as a Career Counselor for many years, I have a wealth of experience in Higher Education, Teaching, and Management. I have worked in a Higher Education role meeting 1:1 with students for career counseling appointments, teaching 5+ courses, and supervising my team of career professionals. My true passion is to meet with individuals and see them from the beginning of the process until the end. I am an achiever at heart, and I enjoy empowering my clients with the strategies and formulas for success so that they (and you!) can achieve their career goals.
Career Confidence & Clarity LLC began in November, 2018. Launching this business is something I had wanted to do for many years, and I will tell you that it was a terrifying leap. There were many days when I doubted myself and lost confidence. But this is all part of the process. To get ahead, you must stretch yourself. Challenge yourself. Get out of your comfort zone. I have learned the value of failure and how to grow from it. I have learned that there is a bigger opportunity cost in NOT trying.
My coaching style is collaborative, solution-focused and organized. I continuously use assessments, hands-on resources, and strengths-based approaches to provide tangible results and take-aways from our coaching sessions. I would love to get to know you and see if we are a good fit for each other!
